How To Cook

Today, we are treating you to a seafood haven, thanks to our very special one-pot Chettinad Prawn Masala Recipe! Oh-so-yummy, isn’t it? If the very same dish is prepared using Doctor’s Choice Soybean Oil, not only will it be yummy, of course, but also provide a lot more. Our soybean oil is loaded with omega-6. And so, this Chettinad Prawn Masala Recipe is preceded by the numerous health benefits of soybean oil.

What do we wait for? Let us start our learning journey of the recipe of this delectable South Indian dish called ‘Chettinad Prawn Thokku’.

Ingredients:

  • 1kg Prawn (deveined and washed)
  • ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • Salt (according to your need)
  • 4 tbsp Doctor’s Choice Soybean Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 Onions (chopped very finely)
  • 3 Green Chillis
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • Curry Leaves (handful)
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • Coriander Leaves

Method:

With all the ingredients in place, now we are ready to combine the prawns’ delicious flavor with the health benefits of Doctor’s Choice Soybean Oil.

Let it Marinate

In a kadhai, keep the deveined prawns washed fresh. On top of it, place 1 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp chilli powder, 2 tsp coriander powder, and around 2 tsp salt. Mix it and let it be for a while.

Set the Kadhai!

Meanwhile, switch on the gas stove and put the kadhai on it. To start with, put 4 tbsp Doctor’s Choice Soybean Oil in it and heat it to cook the food slightly more easily. Put 1 tsp mustard seeds and 2 tsp fennel seeds in it when hot. Saute the main masala powder a little longer.

Now, include the finely chopped two onions and 2-3 green chillis (depending on your tolerance level), one after the other. Mix it well until the mixture becomes golden brown. Once done, add the 2 chopped tomatoes and 2 tsp ginger garlic paste in the kadhai. Saute it all for the next 5 minutes.

Let it Settle for a While

After the mixture becomes extremely thick, add ¼ cup of water and let it cook until the gravy drains from the oil. Don’t worry, you will not be deprived of any health benefits of soybean oil if you do so. Now, add the already marinated prawns to the kadhai. Keep the preparation well mixed and don’t add any additional water.

Pro tip: the in-built water content in the prawns is sufficient for the flavour to hit the dish and cook it well.

Hit The Tadka!

Now, put in the 1 tsp cumin powder and curry leaves and cover the kadhai. Let the prawns cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes. You will find that a lot of water is coming out. That is perfectly fine.

Remove the lid. Toss everything together and sauté well until the contents in the kadhai have thickened again. Add 1 tsp black pepper powder and more curry leaves to it. Now, switch off the flame and sprinkle some finely chopped coriander leaves on top as a garnish.

Yay, let’s go! Our one-pot Chettinad Prawn Masala Recipe ends here, and your dinner is ready to be devoured with hot steaming rice or rotis! Enjoy this fascinating South Indian food today and return for more such easy, delicious recipes filled with the health benefits of Doctor’s Choice soybean oil.
